Local Missions
Katy Christian Ministries
KCM is the primary provider of social services for the Katy area. Its social service programs include financial assistance, peer counseling, pro bono emergency care, and legal services from volunteer lawyers. KCM also has a food pantry as well as two resale stores. In 2008, KCM provided services for over 20,000 people in the Katy area, 80% of those by people at or below the poverty level. Many of the operating costs are absorbed through donations and through the covenant churches which make up KCM. Holy Covenant is one of these active covenant churches and provides both financial and program support. We have a monthly food drive where items are dropped off in the big wooden bin just inside of the Narthex. Volunteers work the food pantry as well as the resale shop and are in the process of trying to get a community garden sprouting. KCM is always in need of volunteers to help.
Tutoring
This ministry serves students at a nearby elementary school, offering one hour of tutoring each Monday and Wednesday. Tutoring begins at 3:45pm and ends by 5pm. If you are available for tutoring, even if it is only one afternoon per week, please contact Rev. Stephanie Lind.
MKT (Missions for Katy Texas)
Holy Covenant participates in this KCM sponsored event that helps those in Katy who are in need of home repair, but are unable to afford the repair on their own. Our spring 2011 project included taking down an old fence and replacing with a new one, yard work, and replacing old boards on the back of the house with Hardi-plank.
Pregnancy Help Center
Holy Covenant supports the Pregnancy Help Center of West Houston, which opened in the Katy area in 1989. The PHC HOPE Program offers classes educating on pregnancy/nutrition, parenting, budgeting, baby care, childbirth preparation, interviewing/job skills, adoption, and infant CPR. The Pregnancy Help Center is totally funded by private donations, allowing all services to be provided free of charge, including pregnancy and ultrasound tests, peer counseling, supplies and furniture assistance, and HOPE classes. If anyone is interested in more information, wants to volunteer, or donate to the PHC, please call the center at 281-578-0078.
Christ Clinic
Christ Clinic located at Memorial Lutheran Church, 5810 Third St.in Katy, opened its doors in October of 2000, seeing patients with no medical insurance. Since then it has assisted over 4,000 patients with their medical needs. With a staff of volunteers in the medical field, assistants, and a chaplain, the clinic is able to maintain an on site pharmacy and also provide spiritual help for those who need direction in their lives. For non-English speaking individuals, a Spanish translator is available at all times. Christ Clinic can always use donations of supplies, including copier paper, pens, file folders and labels, gallon and sandwich size zip lock bags, paper towels, toilet paper, Clorox wipes, examination table paper rolls, and vitamins for children and adults. Holy Covenant holds regular drives for Christ Clinic to support their supplies.
